Over 90 years ago, in a small town in Holland, a leather craftsman embarked on a path that would lead him to design one of the world’s most emblematic satchels. Handcrafted using techniques pioneered by Jacob de Ruiter, the Professor satchel is cut from robust vegetable-tanned leather. The leather’s interaction with mimosa, quebracho, and chestnut barks delivers the deep and natural color of our vintage leather. Rich in character, the leather will develop an exceptional patina over time.

The quality of these is bags is undeniable. I originally purchased the Professor Satchel II but I determined it was small for my needs (the buying guide, Heritage satchel quiz, and additional education on the website is great, I just took a different path- I want space for work and weekend trips). The leather is thick and high quality and the finish is remarkably unique. The buckles on the front make the bag easy to secure and open- these are nice added touch!
The space on the interior could fit a laptop, cords, several folders, bulky headphones, cable organizer bag etc. The pockets in the front are great additions and fit everything from cables to small accessories to something the size of a computer mouse. So, despite trading this bag in for the larger Scholar Laptop III, if you don’t carry more than what I mentioned above and you commute (ie walk, bus, train) a lot, I can’t say enough good things about this bag.
Lastly, the customer service provided by Ruitertassen is second to none. When I received this bag, I began to review it for size and worried when I discovered I needed my space. When I reached out the company, Amyeric provided me with exceptional customer service (in the form of opinions, instruction, etc). He notified me that he would help make sure the bag I received wouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve had my Professor II for 7.5 years, which I bought from a retailer in London. I love it so much. If you want a professional work bag, this is it. If you want something for travelling too, you might be better off with a bigger version, but Ruitertassen quality is where it’s at. I was promised it would last a lifetime and I’m not disappointed. It has served me very well carrying my laptop, cables, snacks and anything else I squeeze in. The leather is very thick and it smells gorgeous even after all this time. I haven’t treated it, yet with time, oily hands and rubbing on clothes the leather is supple and it has a perfect vintage patina that says, “Lovingly used.” It’s definitely a classy head turner.

Great bag. Fabulous looking with a durable construction and thick leather that leads me to believe it will last forever. Have had the bad for a few years, beyond starting to develop what looks like a lightly used patina, no changes in the bag. Fits my laptop, tablet, note pads and various chargers with ease and somehow doesn’t seem at all heavy.
