Description

Over 90 years ago in a small town in Holland, a leather craftman embarked on a path that would make him design one of the world’s most emblematic satchel.
Handcrafted using techniques pioneered by Jacob de Ruiter, this large satchel for men is cut from robust vegetable-tanned oiled leather with finished dark edges.
Only the interaction of the hide with mimosa, quebracho and chestnut barks delivers the deep natural colour of our vintage leather.
Rich in character, it will develop an exceptional patina over time.

The back and front flap are masterfully made of a single piece of hide to minimize weak points.
We use heavy gauge nylon thread for long term durability and heavy-duty push locks hidden behind the pair of adjustable buckles.
The interior is fully lined in hard-wearing olive canvas for added strength.
It features one padded pocket for a 15-inch laptop and three capacious compartments.
Store confidential documents in the two divider zippered pockets.
The large asymmetric front pockets are ideal for quick stowing.

Attach the canvas shoulder strap to lighten the load on your daily commute. It comes fitted with a wide leather shoulder strap for comfort while carrying.
If you transport a lot of gear regularly, this is a perfect heirloom quality career bag.

Before purchasing my Ruitertassen bag, I looked around extensively. Saddleback had been my original preferred choice, but after coming across Ruitertassen I changed my mind. The reason for this is firstly the price – the Ruitertassen bag was almost half the price of the equivalent Saddleback large briefcase. Secondly, Ruitertassen used vegetable tanned leather which is generally seen as superior to Chrome tanned leather which Saddleback and most other companies use. Finally, I like that Ruitertassen has been making leather bags for nearly a century.

I have now had my Ruitertassen bag for about 6 weeks and have already seen a nice softening of the leather that rubs on my leg as I walk. The bag itself is beautiful and feels very old world – like something a professor at Oxford would have carried. It fits everything I need it to comfortably except waterbottles – the solution to this is buying a flat, rectangular waterbottle that will fit nicely in one of the sections.

I’ve gotten many compliments on this bag, and look forward to it lasting me until the end of my career.
